North Dakota State University
North Dakota State University sponsors 16 intercollegiate athletic programs at the Division I level, with teams in The Summit League, Missouri Valley Football Conference and Western Wrestling Conference.
The Bison football team is a powerful force since moving to Division I (FCS) in 2004. They have won five national championships (2011-2015). NDSU is the only team at any level of NCAA football to have won five straight national championships. The Bison men’s basketball team captured its first Summit League regular-season championship in 2009, and have been to two other NCAA tournaments since then. With this and other accomplishments, the Thundering Herd maintains its dominance in the region’s athletics.
