Hy-Vee Tailgate Tips: Jalapeno Popper Dip and Jamaican Jerk Rub

Midco Sports Network and the seven Sioux Falls Hy-Vee Stores have teamed up to provide Hy-Vee Tailgate Tips throughout the 2015-2016 sports season.  During every home SDSU and USD broadcast, on Midco SN, a Sioux Falls area Hy-Vee Chef will prepare something you can create for your guests when you watch the game.

A good dip can make or break your tailgate. Take the chill off with a fun but not too spicy Jalapeno Popper Dip? For a main course, flavor your chicken, pork or fish with an amazing Jamaican Jerk Rub.


Jalapeno Popper Dip

  • 1 lb cream cheese

  • 8 ounces mayonnaise

  • 1 cup shredded cheese

  • 1 cup parmesan cheese

  • 4 ounces green chilies

  • 1/2 cup chopped jalapeno

  • 1 cup panko bread crumbs

  • 3 tablespoons butter (melted)

Mix cream cheese, mayonnaise, shredded cheese, 1/2 cup parmesan, green chilies and jalapeno until blended and spread in 9x13 greased pan. In another bowl, mix 1 cup panko bread crumbs and 1/2 cup parmesan. Sprinkle over cheese mixture, then drizzle butter over the top.

Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or above medium coals until hot.

Jamaican Jerk Rub

  • 1/4 cup mollasses

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

  • 2 tablespoons minced dried onion

  • 1 tablespoon dried thyme

  • 1 tablespoon allspice

  • 2 teaspoons black pepper

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon

  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Combine all ingredients and whisk together. Use as a rub or marinade on chicken, pork or fish.
